LEARNING STRATEGIES

There will be no Final Exam in Learning Strategies.  Students should use their time to focus on outstanding work and studying for finals in their other classes.

​

Week of 6/17 - 6/21

This week students continued to use their planners, tracking missing assignments and grades, and participated in a hands-on exercise to organize their schoolwork.  Students did a reflection on individual and IEP goal progress.  Students had time to catch up on missing assignments, study for quizzes, projects and papers.  This is the last week to turn in missing assignments/projects/papers to general education teachers.

Week of 6/10 - 6/14

This week students continued to use their planners, tracking missing assignments and grades, and participated in a hands-on exercise to organize their schoolwork.  Students had time to catch up on missing assignments, study for quizzes, projects and papers.

Week of 6/3 - 6/7

This week students continued to use their planners, tracking missing assignments and grades, and participated in a hands-on exercise to organize their schoolwork.  Students had time to catch up on missing assignments, study for quizzes, projects and papers.

Week of 5/28 - 5/31

This week students continued to use their planners, tracking missing assignments and grades, and participated in a hands-on exercise to organize their schoolwork.  Students had time to catch up on missing assignments, study for quizzes, projects and papers.  This week time class time in Learning Strategies was limited by Spring Assembly, Yearbook distribution and SBAC testing schedules.

Week of 5/20 - 5/24

This week students continued to use their planners, tracking missing assignments and grades, and participated in a hands-on exercise to organize their schoolwork.  Students learned about some test-taking strategies for the upcoming SBAC testing in ELA, Math and WCAS Science.  Students had time to catch up on missing assignments, study for quizzes, projects and papers.

Week of 5/13 - 5/17

This week students continued to use their planners, tracking missing assignments and grades, and participated in a hands-on exercise to organize their schoolwork.  Students did an exercise to review their IEP goals and self-assess progress.  Students had time to catch up on missing assignments, study for quizzes, projects and papers.

Week of 5/6 - 5/10

This week students continued to use their planners, tracking missing assignments and grades, and participated in a hands-on exercise to organize their schoolwork.  Students had time to catch up on missing assignments, study for quizzes, projects and papers.

Week of 4/29 - 5/3

This week students continued to use their planners, tracking missing assignments and grades, and participated in a hands-on exercise to organize their schoolwork.  The class continued talking about communication styles.  Students had time to catch up on missing assignments, study for quizzes, projects and papers.

Week of 4/22  - 4/26

This week students continued to use their planners, tracking missing assignments and grades, and participated in a hands-on exercise to organize their schoolwork.  The class began talking about communication styles and learned about reflective listening techniques.  Students had time to catch up on missing assignments, study for quizzes, projects and papers.

Week of 4/15 - 4/19

This week students continued to use their planners, tracking missing assignments and grades, and participated in a hands-on exercise to organize their schoolwork.  Students were able to use time in class as a study hall as the 3rd quarter ends this Friday, 4/19.  This week allowed students time to catch up on missing assignments, study for quizzes, and work on Freshmen and Sophomore humanities projects and papers.

Week of 4/1 - 4/5

This week students continued to use their planners, tracking missing assignments and grades, and participated in a hands-on exercise to organize their schoolwork.  Students were able to use time in class as a study hall, allowing time to catch up on missing assignments, study for quizzes, and work on Freshmen and Sophomore humanities projects and papers.

Week of 3/25 - 3/29

This week students continued to use their planners, tracking missing assignments and grades, and participated in a hands-on exercise to organize their schoolwork.  Students took a communications skills survey to inform social skills instruction.  

​

Week of 3/18 - 3/22

This week students continued to use their planners, tracking missing assignments and grades, and participated in a hands-on exercise to organize their schoolwork.  Students attended a Job Corps presentation in the College and Career Center.

Week of 3/11 - 3/15

This week students continued to use their planners, tracking missing assignments and grades, and participated in a hands-on exercise to organize their schoolwork.  Students learned about procrastination and strategies for overcoming this tendency for better time management. 

​

Week of 3/4 - 3/8

This week students continued to use their planners, tracking missing assignments and grades, and participated in a hands-on exercise to organize their schoolwork.  The students completed an age-appropriate transition assessment to aid with class planning as well as provide student voice to upcoming IEPs.  Students prepared for initial course registration and provided information for their case manager.

Week of 2/25 - 3/1

This week students continued to use their planners, tracking missing assignments and grades, and participated in a hands-on exercise to organize their schoolwork.  The students conducted a series of exercises on current events.  Students selected one current event of interest to research.  

​

Week of 2/6 - 2/8

This week students continued to use their planners, tracking missing assignments and grades, and participated in a hands-on exercise to organize their schoolwork.  Students completed an exercise to understand the credits necessary for graduation and make an initial plan for registration for the next school year.  

​

Week of 1/29 - 2/1

This week students continued to use their planners, tracking missing assignments and grades, and participated in a hands-on exercise to organize their schoolwork.  The students were given a packet to provide input into their IEP as the district moves toward student-led IEPs.  Students also created new SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time bound) goals for their second semester.
