ALGEBRA 1A

Welcome to the 2018 - 2019 School Year!

Check here for current week's topics and assignments

Algebra 1A Final Exam is TUESDAY, JANUARY 22nd during 5th period.

Week of 1/14- 1/18

Students reviewed concepts from earlier in the semester to practice concepts that will be on the final.  Reviews focused on evaluating expressions, combining like terms, distributive property, one-step equations, two-step equations, multi-step equations with variables on both sides.

Week of 1/7 - 1/11

Students completed a short unit on molynomial operations.  Students learned and reviewed exponent rules including zero exponents, negative exponents, adding/subtracting molynomials, product rule, quotient rule and power rule.

Week of 12/10 - 12/19

Students took a quiz on their unit on multi-step algebraic equations, including special solutions (one solution, no solution, infinitely many solutions), quiz study guide found here.  Students review prior lessons and foundation skills before Winter break.

Week of 12/3 - 12/7

Students continued to work on solving multi-step algebraic equations, including solving equations with variables on both sides.  The students then used this knowledge to solve the number of solutions to a linear equation with variables on both sides (one solution, zero, no solution, or infinitely many solutions (IMS).

Week of 11/26 - 11/30

Students continued to work on solving multi-step algebraic equations.  Students progressed to solving equations with variables on both sides.  Students took an IEP data assessment.

Week of 11/12 - 11/16

Students continued to practice solving two-step algebraic equations.  Students progressed into solving multiple-step algebraic equations.  This required students to apply past skills using the distributive property and combining like terms to successfully solve complex equations.

Week of 11/5-11/9

Students began to work on solving two-step algebraic equations.  Students were able to review one-step equations, the distributive property and substituting for variables and apply these concepts to new skills.  Students progressed to solving two-step equations with radicals and applied their understanding of exponents and square roots to algebraic expression and equations.

Week of 10/29 - 11/2

Students continued work in the iXL math program.  Students continued to practice combining like terms and learned to apply the distributive property to solve equations.  On Friday students take quiz #3 on one step equations, combining like terms and using the distributive property to solve equations.

Week of 10/22 - 10/26

Students continued work in the iXL math program.  Students continued working on one-step equations and learned how to  combine like terms to simplify algebraic expressions and solve algebraic equations.

Week of 10/15 - 10/19

Students continued work in the iXL math program.  Students learned how to solve one-step algebraic expressions.

Week of 10/9 - 10/12

Students began work in the iXL math program.  On Friday students take quiz #2 on exponents, radicals, order of operations and evaluating expressions.

Week of 10/1 - 10/5

This week students reviewed order of operations for evaluating expressions.  Students practiced evaluating expressions when given a value for a variable.  Students participated in a problem solving exercise introducing word problems and algebraic thinking.

Week of 9/24 - 9/28

This week students properties of exponents and radical numbers.  Students write and evaluate numerical expressions involving whole-number exponents.  Use square root and cube root symbols to represent solutions to equations of the form x2 = p and x3 = p, where p is a positive rational number. Evaluate square roots of small perfect squares and cube roots of small perfect cubes.

Week of 9/17 – 9/21

This week students continued to work on properties of integers.   Students began to work on fractions, reducing to simplest form, adding/subtracting, and multiplying dividing as well as converting between fractions, decimals and percent.  On Friday students took their first quiz.

Week of 9/10 – 9/14

This week we have been working on properties of integers including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Students completed work on positive and negative integers, integer operations and absolute value.   Students began simplifying fractions, mixed vs. improper fractions and converting fractions, decimals and percent.
