Financial Math and Practical Final Exam is TUESDAY, JANUARY 22nd during 3rd period.

​

Week of 1/14 - 1/18

This week Financial Math students will review percent and proportion, and practiced proportion word problems.  The final exam will be held on Tuesday, January 22nd.  The review guide can be found here:

Week of 1/2 - 1/11

This week students did a unit on taxes.  Students learned how taxes are collected, how individuals submit taxes, how to read a W2 form and how to read tax tables.  Students used tax tables to calculate amount owed.  They also did a mock 1040 form to understand tax submissions.  Practical math students worked on understanding data visualizations, focusing on bar graphs and line graphs.

Week of 12/10 - 12/19

This week students explored bank accounts, focusing on checking accounts.  Students learned about calculating interest on credit cards as well as the basics of compounding interest.  Students practiced skills from prior units before the Winter Break.

Week of 12/3 - 12/7

This week students calculated the cost of goods, services and materials.  Consumer math focus on buying supplies including incorporating area and perimeter to calculate amount needed and cost of goods sold.

Week of 11/26 - 11/30

This week students started unit on consumer purchases.  Students worked on IEP goal data progress.

Week of 11/19 - 11/21

This week students are completed a word problem assessment instead of a unit quiz.  Students applied skills learned in prior units to consumer math scenarios.  

​

Week of 11/13 - 11/16

This week students are engaging in project-based learning.  You will have access to laptops on 11/13, 11/14, 11/15, and 11/16.  Be sure to use your time wisely!

 

The project is to create a vacation budget and brochure to a location of your choice, the budget should not exceed $5,000.00. 

 

All components need to be turned in and emailed to Ms. Gale by Monday, November 19th.

Students will be responsible for creating a travel budget and brochure that will include the following components:

1) Research on costs, including sources of information (Orbitz, Expedia, Hotels.com)

2) An Excel budget using the template below.  It will be easiest to update if you only change the cells highlighted in gray.  Be sure the costs do not exceed $5,000.00

3) A travel brochure.  Details on the components are included here.  You can use Publisher, Word or another program but the final should be submitted as a PDF.

Week of 11/5 - 11/9

This week students looked at how to calculate the total cost of a large purchase, focusing on vacation costs, including calculating hotel rates, car rental rates and time across time zones.  Students continued to practice converting fractions to decimals.  Students learned about car payments, expenses, fuel and mileage.   Practical math students worked on fractions with unlike denominators.

Week of 10/29 - 11/2

This week students continued to work on living expenses and budgeting.  Students learned about car payments, expenses, fuel and mileage.   Practical math students continued  multiplying fractions.  There is a quiz on Friday, 11/2.  Study guide can be found here:

Week of 10/22 - 10/26

This week students continued to work on calculating living expenses.  Students learned about mortgage rates and percentages.     Practical math students also participated in units on living expenses and budgeting.

Week of 10/15 - 10/19

This week students began to work on living expense and basic budgeting.  Students learned about calculating mortgage payments, and paying rent.   Students completed a draft budget to compile data on monthly expenses for their budget project.  Practical math students continued to work on converting mixed numbers to fractions.

Week of 10/1 - 10/5

This week continued their unit on consumers.  Students practiced calculating discounts and practiced converting between decimals and percentages.  Students completed a draft budget to compile data on monthly expenses for their budget project.  Practical math students continued to work on converting mixed numbers to fractions.  Data was collected for IEP goal updates.

Week of 9/24 - 9/28

This week began their unit on consumers.  Students practiced adding prices and computing change.  Students looked at discounting items by buying in bulk as well as coupons and other sales strategies.  Students began collecting data on monthly expenses for their budget project.  Practical math students continued to work on fractions. 

​

Week of 9/17 – 9/21

This week students continued to work on calculating income, progressing into more complicated calculations involving overtime wages, tips, piecework and commission.  Practical math students continued to work on fractions.  On Friday students took their first quiz. 

​

Week of 9/10 – 9/14

This week we began to look at earning income.  Students computed weekly and annual wages, calculated overtime, and estimated wages with tips.  Practical math students began working with fractions.
