ALGEBRA 1A

Welcome to the 2018 - 2019 School Year!

Check here for Semester 2 weekly topics and assignments

NOTE: The final exam for Algebra 1A will be held in class on Tuesday, June 18th.

Week of 6/10 - 6/17

Students will do practice exercises and review for the final exam which will be held on Tuesday, June 18th.  The final exam study guide and answer key are located here:

Week of 6/3 - 6/7

Students reviewed types of functions and their graphs.  Students focused on graphing quadratic functions, graphing equations on the coordinate plane; defining vertex, maximum/minimum, axis of symmetry and domain and range.

Week of 5/28 - 5/31

Students continued the unit on statistics and probability.  Students learned about theoretical vs. experimental probability.  This was a shortened week due to Memorial Day, Spring Assembly, Yearbook and SBAC testing schedules.

Week of 5/20 - 5/24

This week students started a mini-unit on statistics and probability.  Students learned about experiments, randomization, outcomes, sample space and calculating probability as both ratios and percents.  Students will continue this unit into next week which is shortened due to Memorial Day and SBAC testing schedules.  Students took an IEP data assessment.

Week of 5/13 - 5/17

Students continued the unit on solving systems of equations using the elimination method.  Students took a quiz to demonstrate their knowledge of the elimination method.  Students did a word problem practice activity.

Week of 5/6 - 5/10

Students continued the unit on solving systems of equations.  We learned how to solve systems of equations using the elimination method.  Students had the opportunity to do quiz corrections to raise their grade on the graphing and substitution quiz.

Week of 4/29 - 5/3

Students continued the unit on solving systems of equations.  We reviewed solving systems of equations by graphing, as well as solving by substitution.  Students took a quiz to demonstrate their knowledge.

Week of 4/22 - 4/26

Students continued the unit on solving systems of equations.  Students reviewed substituting for variables and applied this to solving system of equations using substitution.

Week of 4/15 - 4/19

Students reviewed methods for evaluating algebraic expressions and began their unit on systems of equations.  Students learned about the different types of solutions and how to solve a system of equations using the graphing method.

Week of 4/1 - 4/5

Students finalized the unit on multiplying binomials using either the distributive method or area method which is a useful skill for an upcoming unit on factoring.  Students took an assessment and then re-visited the earlier unit on linear equations with an opportunity to do test corrections and earn additional points for the quiz given March 14th.

Week of 3/25 - 3/29

Students revisited properties of polynomials and practiced addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.  Students learned to apply these principles to multiply binomials using the  distributive method (first, outside, inside, last).  Students learned the quadratic formula,  y = ax2 + bx + c.

Week of 3/18 - 3/22

Students revisited the unit on solving two-step equations and two-step inequalities to develop and practice this skill.  Operations with positive/negative numbers were stressed to ensure students are getting the correct response following the process.  Students took an IEP data assessment.

Week of 3/11 - 3/15

Students continued the unit on relations and functions.  Students learned to translate between slope-intercept form and standard form, preparing them for the unit on substitution and elimination.  Students took a unit assessment on the slope formula, slope-intercept form, standard form as well as graphing these functions.

These documents can be accessed to study for the quiz.

Week of 3/4 - 3/8

Students continued the unit on relations and functions.  Students learned to determine the slope from a graph, as well as using the slope formula. Students learned to translate graphs and coordinate sets to slope-intercept form, and completed word problems on slope applications (rate of change).

Week of 2/25 - 3/1

The snow days altered our schedule for our unit on functions and linear relations.  Students continued to learn about properties of the coordinate plane,  including domain, range, and functions.  Students learned to differentiate between independent and dependent variables and how to do the vertical line test.   Students completed function tables and progressed to evaluating and graphing linear functions.

Week of 2/6 - 2/8

Students reviewed properties of the coordinate plane.  Students learned about equations as functions, completing function tables and progressed to evaluating and graphing linear functions.

Week of 1/29 - 2/1

Students reviewed two-step and multi-step equations.  Students leveraged these skills and applied them to solving multi-step inequalities as well as graphing solutions on a number line.
